- Legislation was introduced to
eliminate ‘discriminatory or unfair’ underwriting practices.
- A Consumer Advocate position
was created to review, report & monitor the situation.
- The government commissioned the
Utilities and Review Board to determine if rates were justified. (The
UARB concluded that rates were justified.)
- A cap was set on non-permanent
minor injuries at $ 2,500 but
only passed with wording changes which ‘weakened’ the original
legislation.
- The NS Insurance Review Board
was created to approve & review all future rates.
- Unifund processed all required
rebates by January 31st, 2004 which complied with provincial
legislation.
- A 20 % rate reduction was
applied to the last rate all companies filed prior to May 1st,
2003 effective November 1st, 2003.
- The rate freeze was extended to
November 1st, 2004.
- Effective November 1st,
2004, Age and Gender cannot be used to form the basis of rating.
